TRACKING MILEAGE IN 2024
Here are the 2024 current government mileage rates:
- "67 cents per mile driven for business use, up 1.5 cents from 2023.
- 21 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes for qualified active-duty members of the Armed Forces, a decrease of 1 cent from 2023.
- 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations; the rate is set by statute and remains unchanged from 2023."
The standard mileage rate for business use is based on an annual study of the fixed and variable costs of operating an automobile. The rate for medical and moving purposes is based on the variable costs.
Effective October 1, 2024, significant updates to the OCONUS/Foreign Per Diem Rates have been announced. These changes include the addition of a new lodging rate for Baku, Azerbaijan, specifically for attendees of COP29, with a maximum lodging rate of $1,100 established through November 30, 2024. However, rates previously set for special events in Paris, France, and Verona, Italy, will see deletions. The maximum lodging rate for Verona, Italy, will have increased temporarily to $830 for the G7-Parliamentarians Meeting from September 1-9, 2024, but note that this rate ends on October 1, 2024. Similarly, for Paris, France, the rate will rise to $625 from July 15 through September 15, 2024, supporting the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, but will also terminate on October 1, 2024. These changes reflect the dynamic adjustments made by USG to accommodate various international events and ensure suitable accommodations for their travelers.
